What Caused the Blogosphere to Grow Up?

image March of 2007 was an eventful time for me, personally and professionally.  In August of 2007, I was still preparing for the birth of my new boy Jacob Li (born in May of that year), reveling in what was still a brand new marriage to my lovely bride Iris. Professionally, I was preparing for an ultimately successful run at being a full time New Media professional, and coming off a previous gig where I spent my days in futile attempts to explain to newspaper owners why they should be focusing on their websites and not their paper editions.

As I look back at my blogging records at the time, I can see that I was reading almost daily many of the same blogs I read today, and I wonder how it is that I completely missed the now infamous Kathy Sierra debacle.

SEOmoz's First Ever PRO Webinar Dec. 10th: We Need Your Feedback & Suggestions
Share |

Posted by randfish

First off, I hope everyone among our US (and expat) readers had a great holiday weekend, filled with tryptophan and football (I know mine was). Second, I'm very excited to announce that SEOmoz PRO is launching our first ever webinar on Thursday Dec. 10th at 11am Pacific (2pm Eastern, 7pm London/UK). We've heard from a number of our members that they'd like to do some live reviewing of strategies and recommendations and get questions tackled in this format. I'll be running the webinar personally, but I haven't quite decided on a topic, and that's one thing I need your help with.

Below is an embedded Google form (they're pretty spiffy) with three short questions. We'll use your feedback to help determine the content and format for the webinar, as well as gauge interest level.

We'll have another blog post in the next few days announcing details (based on your requests + votes), as well as an email to all PRO members with a registration link.

Of course, if you have anything to add in the comments or any recommendations, we'd love to hear from you there, too. If this webinar goes well, we're certainly planning to make it a monthly event for PRO members, and possibly offer some free webinars to the entire community. A future subject that folks have been asking about is training on the SEOmoz toolset - that's something we want to do, but we have some changes + additions coming in January, so we'll get those released first, then follow up.

Thanks for your feedback and happy hol/> [...]

Google Buzz Button Comes For Publishers
Share |

Used to be we clicked buttons to share to del.icio.us and Digg. Then we shared with Facebook and retweeted with special Twitter buttons such as TweetMeme, which is still my favorite.

Google April 13 added a Google Buzz button, proving that it has gotten serious about letting publishers share Buzz users' links to interesting news items and blog posts with other Buzz users.

Previously, when users wanted to share Buzz, they had to copy a link from one Website into their Buzz window. Google's new copy-and-paste Buzz buttons let Buzz users launch links to Buzz.

These publications are now using the Buzz button right off the bat: TechCrunch, Mashable, Washington Post, The Huffington Post, Glamour, YouTube, Blogger, MySpace, GigaOM, PBS Parents, PBS NewsHour, The Next Web, TweetDeck, SocialWok, Disqus, Vinehub, and Buzzzy.

Here's what it looks like on GigaOm and note the little battery icon counter next to the Buzz button:

Clicking on it produces this easy Buzz posting UI:

ShareThis, Meebo, Shareholic, AddThis and AddtoAny also now use Google Buzz button into their sharing functionality.

This is very exciting and could be very valuable for Google as it seeks to move past the nasty privacy imbroglios, [...]

The New Digg: What it Means For Power Users & Publishers
Share |

The new version of Digg has changed the playing field for two of its biggest constituents: power users and publishers. We discuss this with a long-time Digg power user.

The latest version of social news site Digg is currently in restricted beta, with a further 20,000 users added at the beginning of July. The new version adds the ability to 'follow' people or publishers, via a feature called "My News." This will be the default Digg homepage and it's prompted many to compare the new Digg to Twitter and Facebook. Another big change is that publishers may now automatically submit their content. This changes the game for both power users and publishers, because previously the secret to getting onto the Digg front page was for a power user to submit the story. That's no longer the case.

Power Users on Digg

Up till now, the definition of a 'power user' on Digg has been someone with the ability to make stories popular simply by submitting content or 'digging' it up. There was also a lot of back scratching that happened behind the scenes, among both power users and/> [...]
